The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training & athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type persons eight years of age & older with mental retardation, giving them courage, experience joy & participate in a sharing of gifts, skills & friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes & the community.
The ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help persons with mental retardation participate as productive & respected members of society at large, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop & demonstrate their skill & talents through sports training & competition and by increasing the public’s awareness of their capabilities & needs.
