SELF HELP GROUP

A women empowerment program in rural India which aims to empower women artisans to create handmade handicrafts. With inspiration from India’s colorful culture, the Chetna artisans hand stitch quilt bed covers,handbags, and home accessories. Chetna assocation women’s cooperative program serves as an income-generating opportunity for women who otherwise have limited employment opportunities in the rural communities of northern India. The women receive the full benefits of their labor and are able to produce a sustainable income in a fair trade environment, which ensures proper education, health and hygiene for them and their families.
Chetna assocation helps to create economic stability for women to meet the needs of their desperately poor families. The program aims to empower women to become income earners in their family by providing them with the resources and training for producing and selling handicrafts. With design and market assistance from our staff.
Chetna assocationa has helped provide skill training and employment to more women in need. Through training, development and support, the program has made drastic improvements in the lives of the women and the well being of their families.
Women work in six interdependent self-help groups to produce beautifully hand-stitched quilts and textile products that help them earn an income to care for their families. The women receive the full benefits of their laborand are able to produce a sustainable income to ensure proper education and health for their family and children.
Chetna assacation women’s young children to attend and receive social development and primary education, while the women are quilting. Chetna provides access to education and preventative healthcare for the women.
After training is completed, Chetna assocation women organize themselves into a Self Help Group, an independent entity that helps to organize the artisans into a small business operation which provides management and structure for their work.
